This Sunday, Sermon will be on sin. What is sin? Are there unforgivable sins? Is sin just that forbidden by God. Are there natural sins? Are there things one can say or do that just make any reasonable person say it must be a sin? Is judging the only sin...
What is Sin? The Bible lists several things forbidden by God to the Hebrews that are called sins. Even the New Testament embraces there are sins, including original sin to be forgiven for by Christ's atonement. Is that what sin is? Biblically forbidden by God's acts. Acts formally condemned and sentenced to death. Acts that can get one sent to eternal hell. Or is sin a concept? An idea. Does sin mean that so bad one should be sent to hell? Or is sin just something God made an act to be?
Is the unforgivable sin disobedience to God? Can every law be broken made by men, every rule made by rulers ignored, but one dare not disobey God, or the consequences will be death in hell? The original sin in the Bible was Adam and Eve's disobedience. The Torah law was a sin to disobey because it came from God. With the New Testament ministry, many sins by Torah law were allowed to Christian converts, but there were still sins. Has sin evolved to be forgivable? Are all sins forgivable but blaspheming the Holy Spirit?
Are there natural sins? Is there an unwritten code that earmarks certain acts sin? One look at someone performing these acts, and one just wants to say it is a sin? Even the theatrical depiction of the acts is so obviously morally wrong they offend the audience to watch. Like murder, rape, theft, etcetera? These acts all cause suffering but is the suffering so unbearable the performers should be destroyed by God? Or is the only sin wanting God to destroy some acts performers in blazing hell?
Is judging the only sin? Judging things guilty as sin especially! Finding some deeds so morally bad that the only thing to do with those that do them is to destroy them. Is that the only real sin? Especially when one tempers judgment with mercy, how can it not be a sin to select to destroy anyone? A lot to think about...
