As we begin our Lenten journey, let us remember the gift is Christ. We receieve Jesus in Lent. On Christmas he was born among us, on Lent he was gifted to us. Jesus as our gift from the Heavenly Father is our healer, teacher, and saviour to mention a few of his roles. Jesus is our Heavenly older brother who with open arms with the Father waits to greet all the prodigal sons and daugthers home.
Jesus is our Lenten gift from God. He is the Paschal lamb. He is the atoning offering. He makes peace with us and God. On Christmas he was born amongst us. On Lent he was offered up for us. After his ministry of miracles he was sacrificed so we might know God's love for us is death defying. In life he healed the sick and even raised the dead. After death he was crucified, died, and was buried, and rose on the third day. Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father enthroned as our God hero.
Jesus is our healer, teacher, and saviour. As our God hero he reigns ever ready to intercede on our behalf. Prayers to the Saints to intercede on our behal or in Jesus name rise like incense to his martyrs throne. Not everyone is able to receive a crucified God king. Those that are have a special place in his heart. They are those that can see though humble is the lamb great is the lion in the lamb's skin.
Jesus waits for us patiently in Heaven to turn to him and recieve his grace to return to God as children. His mission fields will not close until all the prodigals return home. Lost sheep, black sheep, prodidigal sons or daughters, all those institutionally rejected, unwanted, undesirable he awaits with open arms. Come to me and be free of rejection in my graces, he says to all who will hear.
